Misappropriation of players gives Light Team edge, win

Well, all began quite well. FMSC's organizing body was a bit daunted, in fact by the amount of people who had shown up to play. The 31 players that were on the field at 8:15 were divided up, as best as could be forseen, and play began, as did the trash talking.
Josh Dalton, who had had the August play of the game scored on him in goal, started at the position for Light and was being taunted by Dan Gibson before the clock had even started. Dalton kept his cool, however, and saw Light take a 1-0 lead within ten minutes on a sweet run by Sean, whose last name is coming, who was able to put the ball just out of the reach of Dark's goalie, Nathan Saxton. The lead soon doubled, and the un-evenness of things began to show.
Soon, however, it was Dark on the attack. Eric Jacoby received a lob just outside the six foot box, but did not have the time or space for his best strike. Still, his shot forced a fine tip over the bar from Dalton. Jacoby's subsequent corner, with a stellar bend that surely would have cut the lead in half, was handled by Dalton in similar fashion. That resulting corner was cleared by the Light defense. And that was how the half ended.
During the break, Dark was given an option of a trade to even things up, but their captains seemed confident of a comeback. The only changes made were within the teams, Dalton and Saxton coming out of their respective goals to play up, and Graham Howell stepping back for Light, Dan Gibson for Dark.
Much to pretty much everyone's dismay, the game did not get closer in the second half, as Light continued to increase their lead. It was 5-0 before Kevin Unwin, Dark's player of the game, saw an open goal with a pass coming to him 15 feet out from the left post that beat Howell. Unwin capitalized nicely. Less than five minutes later, Jenny Dalton, August's defensive player of the game failed to live up to her title, bending down to pick up a loose ball after a brilliant save by Howell. Unwin drilled the following PK. For mercy, Dalton was not red carded.
That was not how it ended however, because Josh Dalton was able to make the Light tally 6, adding to the two assists he had already provided, and scoring on the very man that had berated him an hour earlier. In the closing minutes, the final goal was put in the back of the non-existent net. Final score: 7-2.

September Players of the Game

Light: Even though he did not score, the decision was made that this had to go to Jonathan Simons. Simons was all over the field. He was making passes and stops left and right. He provided Light with midfield presence, despite the fact that he started out as forward. Besides all that was Simons' speed and endurance. This guy never ran out of energy. Kudos, Jonathan. We hope to see you at the next match.

Dark: Kevin Unwin never gave up, even at 5-0. He was definitely the heart of the Dark Team. He, like Simons, did his best to do everything to help his team to victory. That might have been enough by itself to earn him this award. But, Unwin also scored two goals, Dark's only two goals of the game. That pretty much sealed it. Conrgats, Kevin.
